This beautiful city in Dutchess County has become a great destination for creative folks. The lively and vibrant atmosphere of this arts community is sure to brighten your winter blues. Beacon Arts hosts a citywide “Second Saturday” event celebrating local artists, craftsmen, and musicians. From gallery exhibits to wine tastings to special culinary events, there’s lots to see and do on the 2nd Saturday of each month year round. Pay a visit to the “Dia: Beacon” museum as well, and find some of the most intriguing installations and interactive gallery exhibits on its 30 acre property; this gorgeous building makes excellent use of its natural light and industrial modern design! Want to get outside and explore a little bit? Then Bannerman Castle at Hudson Highlands State Park is for you. Looking for places to eat nearby? For those who prefer to get out into the open and embark on a day-trip adventure, this is the can’t-miss spot. You can check out the Lake Minnewaska Loop Trail, Millbrook Mountain Trail, Vernooy Falls Trail, Upper Awotsing and Castle Point Loop, and more. Be sure to check the weather report ahead of time, and make sure you get the best winter weather conditions for each location. Bring your cross-country skiing equipment and snowshoes! Stop by and pay a visit to local roadside attraction “Gnome Chomsky” who gets decorated seasonally. Grab some cocoa and coffee and stop by Lippman Park for wintertime scenic views across the frozen pond and some old-fashioned sledding.
