Hello, again, readers!  We’re back with another fantastic travel guide to keep you busy over winter break.  Did you know that NY State is home to some of the most incredible ski resorts and slopes?  We sure do, and we love them!  On less than a tank of gas you can be flying down the slopes of your dreams on fresh powder.  There’s no shortage of fun on today’s jampacked blog!

In case you’re new here, we’re pleased as punch to report that New York State is home to some of the best ski slopes outside of New England!  That’s right, since the early 1900s, our state has been a haven for snowbirds and snow bunnies alike.  In 1932, Lake Placid was host to the third Olympic games (and you can check out our previous posts for tour site details!) and hosted four skiing events including cross-country and ski-jumping.  In 1933, “Ski Bowl Park” was advertised as the first public ski mountain, but thanks to poor weather conditions, it wasn’t really until 1934 that the destination really caught on.  Skiing, snowshoeing, and other fun wintry activities continued to gain popularity into the 1950s, and even saw the opening of a one-person chairlift.  You can learn more about this history and other fun facts here from Mappy Hour (and consider booking a stay at Llama House Adirondacks while you’re at it!)
