That’s why today’s blog post is all about great places to visit for Spring Break or Summer Vacations in New York State for boating, kayaking, and fishing. There’s just nothing like a cool, refreshing dip in the crystal clear lake water, or sitting in the warmth of the sun waiting for the catch of the day as the waves lap against the boat. So let’s check out some scenic destinations upstate to enjoy!

Thousand Islands - Located along the Saint Lawrence River between the Canadian and United States Border, New York’s “Thousand Islands” is a haven for boaters and waterfront getaways. There’s a great deal of history to explore here, including two gorgeous castles: Boldt Castle and Singer Castle. You can explore the nearby Tibbetts Point Lighthouse, Antique Boat Museum, Sackets Harbor Battlefield State Historic Site, and the Cornwall Brothers Store Museum. You don’t even have to bring your own boat to have fun in this waterfront region! You can sign up for a public or private excursion via party pontoon boat, wine cruises, or sunset dinner cruises. And if you prefer to go it alone, consider a glass-bottom boat rental, white water rafting, kayaking, or paddleboarding!

Great Sacandaga Lake - Located in Adirondack Park, this impressive man made lake is 40 square miles in surface area, and 29 miles long. It’s a haven for watersports fans and boating enthusiasts! You’ll find plenty of opportunities here to go swimming, water skiing, fishing, and so much more. If you’re an angler, this is the place for you! Fishermen can be on the lookout for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, channel catfish, redbreast sunfish, black crappie, walleye, rainbow trout, brown trout, roc bass, yellow perch, and northern pike varieties. It’s also stocked yearly with both Rainbow trout and brown trout. For the sea captains in our midst, there are 4 different boat launches on the lake for public use, as well as multiple drop spots for canoes, kayaks, and row boats! Don’t have a boat of your own? That’s okay, there are lots of rentals in the area.

Saranac Lake Area - Is also located in the Adirondacks, and has over 24 miles of lakes and waterways to explore. The region includes Lower and Middle Saranac Lake, Round Lake aka Middle Saranac Lake, Lake Flower, Oseetah Lake, and Kiwassa Lake. You can bring your own boat, rent one in the area, or even book a boat tour or watersports excursion! It’s great for family camping as there are plenty of campsites and cabins for rent in the area. You can drop your anchor and spend the day fishing, reading in the sunshine, floating in tubes, swimming, or check out the many islands around the shorelines. It’s an incredible place for family summer fun!

The Finger Lakes - The Finger Lakes consist of eleven long, narrow lakes in upstate New York: Conesus, Hemlock, Canadice, Honeoye, Canandaigua,Keuka, Seneca, Cayuga, Owasco, Skaneateles, and Otisco. There’s ample opportunity in the region for boating, swimming, rowing, and canoeing. The area is also famous for its plentiful vineyards and gorgeous hiking trails, making it an extremely popular destination year round. You can bring your own boat by trailer, or visit Finger Lakes Boat Rentals or the Finger Lakes Boating Center to rent or purchase one! Boating enthusiasts will also enjoy a trip to the Finger Lakes Boating Museum to learn a little about the region’s maritime history and boating traditions as well as boat designs.
